Description
NEED FOR OTHER SKETCHING PLANES
In the ear lier chapter s, you cr eated basic models by extr uding or r evolving the sketches. All those
models wer e cr eated on a single sketching plane, either XY, YZ, or XZ plane. But most mechanical
designs consist of multiple sketched featur es, r efer enced geometr ies, and placed featur es. These
featur es ar e integr ated together to complete a model. Most of these featur es lie on differ ent planes.
When you star t a new Autodesk Inventor par t file and tr y to invoke a sketching plane, you ar e
pr ompted to select the plane on which you want to dr aw the sketch. On the basis of design
r equir ements, you can select any plane to cr eate the base featur e. To cr eate additional sketched
featur es, you need to select an existing plane or a planar sur face, or you need to cr eate a plane that
will be used as a sketching plane. For example, consider the model shown in Figur e 5-1.
