Description
Perhaps our biggest failure with student teachers is in not preparing them adequately for the emotional pressures on them and for the way their own emotional responses will help determine their reactions and behaviour in the classroom. However much I was able to analyse the situation—and this did help to neutralize my subjective reactions to a considerable extent—I could not always repress the rage, frustration, hurt, resentment, anxiety and insecurity I began to feel, particularly as my more rational, deliberately thought out strategies continued to fail—and inevitably my emotional responses began to colour my attitudes and interactions, so that I became apparently repressive, intolerant, inconsistent, overreacting, sarcastic, petty and defensive.
