A decade ago, I was certain that this book was soon to be written. Jeffrey A. Hess and Charlene K. Roise, two professional historians based in the Twin Cities, appeared destined to pen an ode to the North Star state’s bridging heritage. It never happened. Through no fault of these potential authors, circumstance reversed itself and the expected narrative never came about. But interest in the subject did not wane, and after all these years I find myself completing a work
about many of the bridges that have graced Minnesota’s
landscape.
