The Government’s recent agenda for inclusion in schools and the focus on preventing and reducing exclusions has further raised awareness as to the specific needs of students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Many mainstream schools have consequently had to rethink how these students are both supported and managed within this context. Under the Excellence in Cities Initiative schools have been able to further access student referral units and learning support units alongside setting up on-site units and introducing and implementing Pastoral Support Plans (PSPs).
